mintUpdate 1.5 not found

Postby mintgeezer on Sun Oct 21, 2007 9:15 am

Hi,

I've been using mintupdate 1.5 with Celena & it's been working great. Great work!

I did a fresh install of Celena & went to download mintupdate 1.5. When I click on the forum link:

http://linuxmint.com/repository/daryna/ ... 5_i386.deb

I get:

Not Found

The requested URL /repository/daryna/mintupdate_1.5_i386.deb was not found on this server.
Apache Server at linuxmint.com Port 80

This has been happening since at least yesterday.

Broken padlock in MintUpdate

Postby fabio on Tue Oct 23, 2007 6:33 am

I have Cassandra, and about one week ago I removed Ubuntu Updater and installed MintUpdate ver. 1.2, as suggested in the Blog.
For a few days it worked OK and I also downloaded and installed some packages, but then it started to give me all the time the broken padlock icon.
I have since installed ver. 1.4, 1.5 and 1.6, but nothing helps. I checked the log file, as suggested in the Blog, and then doubted that the problem might be a congestion on the Ubuntu site, because of the release of Gutsy.
Now, after a few days I still have the problem. I include here the last Mintupdate logfile:

-------------- Content of the logfile -------------------

Is it still some congestion on Ubuntu site, or something else ? Who can help me ?
Thanks, Ciao

Hi Fabio,

Yes, medibuntu changed their repository address.. you need to update your /etc/apt/sources.list.

Read this thread:

I created a slight modification to my Mintupdate icon theme3. I debated simply updating theme3 but decided to let users decide which version they liked better and so was born theme5. This one uses grayed out icons for "busy" and "error", which more clearly denotes that Mintupdate isn't accessible for the moment. Mintupdate icon themes require Mintupdate version >= 1.5. This theme is uses standard Tango icon theming for a more integrated look. This theme makes Mintupdate look professional and well integrated in Linux Mint 3.x (Cassandra or Celena.) Enjoy! Grab it while it's hot....

Note to Ede: new installation script needed my friend! :-)

Clem,
I changed the medibuntu URL in the sources.list file, as you suggested, and the problem was solved.
Thanks !! Merci beaucoup !!

I think this has already been mentioned, but is there anyway that you can somehow program in so that we get a warning when one of our sources in the sources.list file can not be accessed, because the way it is now it just appears that there are no available updates if it can't contact one of the sources.

Regarding Mintupdate 1.6...

Postby cmost on Wed Oct 31, 2007 7:03 pm

Regarding Mintupdate, I have version 1.6 installed on Linux Mint 3.1 (Celena). Mintupdate will periodically flash, indicating it's checking the repositories (?) and report 'system up to date'. When I open a terminal and run apt-get update followed by apt-get dist-upgrade, several updates will be available. This concerns me because I have configured Mintupdate to use dist-upgrade as its upgrade method and I have also configured it to show updates rated 4 or 5. So, assuming there's nothing else wrong, Mintupdate should be showing me the same updates as a manual 'apt-get dist-upgrade.' On a side note, I do have several repositories that are not authenticated (never entered their GPG keys.) Could this be causing the problem? Thanks!

Note to Moderators: If I post this here for a day or two and fail to get a response, I'll ask the same question in the 'General' forums. I don't want to cause you guys unneeded grief so if you like, you can simply move the thread there. Thanks!

Use cd ~/.linuxmint/mintUpdate/logs/ and run this command
Code: Select all
ls -tl

The top log should be the latest but check the time info.
Read the log to see why it isn't working.
If their is no errors there then use cd /usr/lib/linuxmint/mintUpdate/logs/
Code: Select all
ls -tl
For the logs there.
