Well I have done it again. I have somehow managed to mess up my OS while trying to download gmail-agent to work with Digikam. I have no idea what I did which is unfortunately no good to the software writers. needless to say I have had to reinstall the whole system again as I could not even get the recovery tho work, still never mind I am up and running again.

Linux is a steep learning curve, and it never actually flattens out (but then neither does Win or Mac) but the gradient does improve with time and patience. The main thing is that you got round your problem. In the future (if you persevere) you may find the next solution easier. Here's hoping anyway

you could have booted from live CD/DVD/USB
when I bork my sytem I chroot to the system partition and fix the messed stuff

or just restore system from a backup, if u have some
