Keyboard shortcuts disappears.

Post by tobias_84 »

Hello All!

I'm new to the Mint community and I'm hoping I'm typing this in the right place!

After I have installed the latest LMDE I have noticed that my keyboard shortcuts stops working and when looking under settings and keyboard shortcuts a whole menu is missing. All normal windows-function is gone.
I.e Alt-Tab, minimize, maximise, show desktop, all of them just gone.

I have tried and remove my home folder and had the system create a new one with default settings and they do work again. But after a day or two they are gone again.

I haven't played whit them, themes or other settings.
Did try a program for exporting and importing settings, which worked in ubuntu but not in debian.

Do you guys have any ideas?

/Tobias

So, how did you remove (delete or erase) your /home directory (folder)
  • You have complete control over it (your /home folder)..
Nautilus file manager partially controls the desktop selections, see link below..

I removed it by going as root and deleted it. (su -, rm -rf) Changed back to my user and signed in. The system do then create a new home folder and setting up the default folder structure. Just like a clean install.

Not quite...
The desktop session manager was still running (the graphical desktop)
--a reboot would have been just like a fresh install, as it would have restarted the system services, including the desktop manager (gdm (Gnome)) or whichever session manager is in control of the graphical boot..

I did close down gdm first and and removed the folder. Also started gmd and signed in whit the gdm login manager.

And after that it just worked again. But now they have stopped working again.

How many 'Sub folders' do you have under controlpanel > Keyboard shortcuts ?

Now I have 'Sound', 'Desktop' and 'Help' (or aids).

Using Swedish language and don't know the correct translation for English.

Well I have been trying some more and found out this:

Looking under control-panel keyboard shortcuts I miss many functions.

Following this guide http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/howto-crea ... -in-gnome/

I can find them in /apps/metacity/global_keybindings/switch_windows in gconf-editor, but they do not exist under controlpanel Keyboard Shortcuts.

Can it depend on translation issues?

And another try later...

Renaming .conf, .gconfd, .gnome2 and .gnome2_private folders the subfolder 'Windows Management' appears under control-panel Keyboard shortcuts again.

Have to see how long time they will work now.

I have found out that enabling compiz breaks the keyboard shortcuts.

Put a checkmark in Gnome compatability.
