Debian Xfce Edition RC approved

It seems that Clem has just approved the Debian Xfce Edition for RC release:

And there's a 64 bit version too:

I'm going to try it as soon as it hits the download servers

Even a simple update can make the RC release similar to the stable released ISO. So how many minutes should we wait for the ISO to appear? Am I the only one who is excited?

i was hoping to see 4.8 , but it seems that it's using 4.6.2 version of xfce.

Trying it out now. So far I am very pleased. Set up about the same as my Mint 9 XFce and it uses a little over half the memory the Mint 9 does. Mint 9 XFce-->218 MiB, Debian XFce-->119MiB. It is also slightly lighter that my Mint 9 Fluxbox.

Just wondering (as i use the regular LMDE64 bit)...but those who have downloaded and installed this...is it set up by default for debian testing or debian stable? Just curious

I am still downloading so I do not know for certain but I recall reading that all Mint Debian releases are going to be rolling releases.
Which would mean the testing repos.

Thank you jeffreyC...i thought that would be the case...of course, you will easily be able to check it by going to "software sources" in the mint-updater once installed...

I have a feeling that mint will be completely moving away from the ubuntu base and going completely debian based for all desktops eventually...just a premonition i am having

got it installed.

based on testing

did update+upgrade , got some error on unable to get some file, did apt-get dist-upgrade again and all is well.
some 100+ over files upgrade.

preloaded openoffice was replaced by Libreoffice during upgrade.

I'm trying it now on VirtualBox. It seems to work fine so far, but it is still too early for me to have conclusions about performance.

My main impression is that this is truly Clem's work, very different from the typical Melwiz style. The default apps are identical to those in the main edition, some of them not seen before in the Xfce edition (Rhythmbox, gedit, Tomboy, Gwibber, PulseAudio). I guess Clem prefer unification of the different editions, but this is opposite to the trend in Xubuntu in the last year, where they replace apps with lighter alternatives in response to users criticism.

with file manager open, right clicking of a file or folder usually pop up a windows for selection such as Open with, copy, delete, rename, etc and window will stay on

on this RC, once I release right button, the windows pop up disappear.

so I got to hold the right button..
could this be new feature?. anyone know how to make it as per normal way?

The problem is due to the fact that the window pops up slightly moved from the cursor position. This is a strange interaction of the Mint-X theme with Xfce. We should report a bug to Clem.

On mintX theme:
Changing the theme to clearlooks or other may solve the problem about the right click. It solved mine but I do admit the metal theme is awesome!

Installed 32-bit system on a netbook, updated a 64-bit version that was already running LMDE with Gnome, but XFCE manually installed.

In both instances, when I hit the Mint Update icon, it told me to fix broken packages first. That didn't sound right, so I went to the command line;

[sudo apt-get update &&
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade]

About 120mb worth of updates later, both machines are up to date, running fine. This is the really cool part of a rolling distro.

Removed open office and replaced with Libre Office.
Removed rhythmbox and replaced with Banshee.
Installed Inkscape.

This is going to be fun.
