Any way to upgrade from an existing LXDE set-up using apt?

Yes, I'm lazy.

Edit: Just downloaded and tried to install LXDE-10 on an A22 Thinkpad (I know-why don't I just donate it to the Smithsonian?)

When it tried to open the live cd environment, it gave off a bunch of errors. Can't remember what, for the most part, but I did see one saying something about recognizing that it was an IBM system, and if module EEE something was loaded it could kill it, so that module wasn't loaded. I also see that warning every so often on my present LXDE-9 install, so not sure if that's relevant. The live cd never launched, just showed errors. The md5sum checked out OK. I also tried a few weeks ago to get LXDE-rc working, and it wouldn't even boot. Never checked the md5sum on that one, just figured I'd wait until the release version was ready.

#9 works great for me, and I've looked forward to seeing what #10 looks like on it, but unless I've done something wrong, looks like I'll have to be happy with #9 on it for now.

I'd be happy if this was the worst problem I ever had!

Products (Formerly Mendocino)

LXDE version I installed on a machine older than I was with debian. Intel Celeron 466 MHz processor, 196 Ram, 4 gig drive, sound card sound blaster awe 16 and a Trident board very limited. I recognized all the devices, just had to do modprobe the sound card, the driver for the video is "vesa" /
In debian I had trouble setting up the network card, mint now navigate the Internet, install samba server, Apache and proffpt.
It works wonders

Hi everybody ! ...

just did install ... 'LINUX Mint 1o LXDE' ... on my 'Acer-Aspire-One' ... i386 (32-bit) ... 'Intel Atom N27o' ! ... screen 1o" ! ...
there where no problems by installation with an 'Live-CD-ROM-iso' ... burned on a 'CD-R' ...
exact name is ... 'LINUX Mint 1o lxde-rc i386-32bit' ! ...
and the Update did work it out fine ... with langage-support for my mother-language ... de ! ... I like this ! ...

the 'broadcom 8o2.11'-drivers ... right there ! ... for just been aktivated ! ... (could'nt find this with other Debian-Versions) ! ...

but ! ... what is the difference to a 'GNOME-Desktop' ? ... it seemes mostlikely the same ...
and so far ... I find out ... can't create some new folders ... or files ... with the 'file-manager' ! ...

anyway ! ... I like 'LINUX Mint' ! ... especialy the 'GNOME-Version' ... from 'LINUX Mint 1o Julia' ... is working just fine ! ...

The difference with Gnome is that this is a lightweight desktop that can run on older computers.

Note that you used the RC (release candidate) and not the final version. But when doing an update everything should be fine.

About the Broadcom driver: you are using an Ubuntu-based system, so there is an Additional Drivers program. This program does not exist in Debian itself and many Debian-based distros that aren't based on Ubuntu.

Note that the 'update' I meant is just the update icon (the 'shield') in the tray (bottom-right of screen).

I have both the i386 and amd64 versions running on my test computer and they are doing fine. I will run them this way for a while and then update my other computers. I have an in house server running on LMDE Main with my own cobbled up version of Xfce for many months without a problem. Debian is the way to go.

Hi there ! ...

did do the ' update ' ... with the ' shield ' ... in ' bottom-right of screen ' ! ...
but this didn't change anything ... I also did install ' thunar ' ... and some extentions .. for ' nautilus ' ! ...
and it's still the same ... no funktion ... to create some new folders .. or files ! ...

maybe I must take out something ... from there ? ... ' nautilus ' ? ...
