Linux Mint Xfce (201104) released!
Re: Linux Mint Xfce (201104) released!
Thank you guys. Maybe this is the Mint that I can run and be happy with on my old laptop? Not a dig at the wonderful work you guys all do, more a dig at myself for never being quite happy with what I've got
Re: Linux Mint Xfce (201104) released!
Whoa, Gnome applications added in Xfce? How is that going to gain any speed? I should think with all the Dependencies you would get the same bloat you get wit Gnome. The Live DVD does not seem faster at all.
Re: Linux Mint Xfce (201104) released!
i had the same questions bugging me, see lot of gnome and qt dependencies as well I don't really have any complaint about the speed, feels quite snappy, but RAM usage is definitely on the higher side, pretty much same as gnome which was quite disappointing. If there was some way to remove all the unwanted noise it would be a perfect package.

Re: Linux Mint Xfce (201104) released!
I am getting about 100 megs less RAM use than the Mint 10 main edition when I compare my two laptops side by side. I also was wary of all the gnome apps, but so far it has been running very smoothly on my EEE PC. edit: oops I realize I am comparing apples and oranges, as main edition is Ubuntu based and XFCE is now Debian based.murali wrote:i had the same questions bugging me, see lot of gnome and qt dependencies as well I don't really have any complaint about the speed, feels quite snappy, but RAM usage is definitely on the higher side, pretty much same as gnome which was quite disappointing. Re: Linux Mint Xfce (201104) released!
Yes, on startup, RAM usage is quite low compared to Main edition, after starting FF and other apps it shoots up but it doesn't go down by that much amount when they're closed. Maybe they've some memory leaks, not sure. But no other complaints so far other than this. As with any Mint release things just work, beautifully. Great release indeed.

201104 xfce still doesn't allow the touch pad to emulate clicking then again there's an easy remedy for this.
Re: Linux Mint Xfce (201104) released!
Will it be possible to get the appropriate xfce packages into an existing LMDE install?
Re: Linux Mint Xfce (201104) released!
It may be possible, by adding the repository to sources.list.

Ya, thanks guys. I have a friend who is downloading this for me. (I'm on dial-up)
Am looking forward to installing/using it.
Two reviews I've read so far were both positive.

Re: Linux Mint Xfce (201104) released!
Hello all.
Been waiting for this with eager anticipation! However...
as soon as I touch the brightness buttons on my laptop, (acer fo200) I get a complete system freeze....
Anyone experienced something similar?

Ok - this is now solved with the addition of the prop hw drivers.
Clem - this is an excellent distro. Thanks a bunch to you and the team for putting this together!

HP printer connection/control not working even after latest actualization.m0rt wrote:Ok - this is now solved with the addition of the prop hw drivers.
I.E. Ink control, and possibly other control settings, in NOT working.
It does not go from "Normal" to "Draft", resulting in ink loss.
What should be the "proper" drivers, if CUPS works correctly on the main distro?

Re: Linux Mint Xfce (201104) released!
Just installed it after running the RC for a week virtually. So far, so good. Hasn't let me break it yet, although I am trying!
Re: Linux Mint Xfce (201104) released!
it was a nice trip but I am going back to Mint xfce 9 as its more stable and I'm more familiar with it than I am with LMDX.. Thank you to Clem. and the community. I will still use Mint though.
I learned alot about dpkg, apt-get during my one month stay with debian xfce.
