Quick search in Synaptic is grayed out [SOLVED]

Post by mads »

Hi.

I am running LMDE 64-bit. Quick search in Synaptic doesn't show (is grayed out).
I have seen this bug report and this thread. Both suggest installing "apt-xapian-index" package,
but the issue isn't resolved after installing this package.

Thank you.

Have you restarted Synaptic in between? Logged out and back in? Rebooted?

Yes several times, but with no luck. I've also tried running these commands followed by reboot.
sudo apt-get install --reinstall synaptic
sudo apt-get install --reinstall synaptic apt-xapian-index

I have another system running LMDE 32-bit. I have checked Synaptic related packages in both systems.
The only difference I see is a package called "libxapian15" which is installed in 32-bit, but not in 64-bit.
However, this is what I get in 64-bit:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install libxapian15
E: Unable to locate package libxapian15

@ Silent Warrior

Thank you. "Quick filter" is there now! :D

This is what happened. I opened Synaptic again and saw some packages
under "Not installed (residual config)". Then I marked them all with Ctrl-A,
but I changed my mind and didn't uninstall them because I saw evolution
among them. I closed Synaptic, opened a terminal and ran these:
sudo apt-get autoclean
sudo apt-get autoremove
sudo apt-get clean

After this I opened Synaptic again to see what other packages besides
evolution are put in "Not installed (residual config)". And then I saw that
Quick filter is there. Strange!

Thanks a lot for your reply. I will mark the thread as SOLVED now.
