Hello from the Barbary Coast

Post by maxmir »

Hello everyone. I arrived on Linux Mint World a few weeks ago from the Land of Ubuntu. I'm not sure how long I can stay -- indeed I shouldn't be messing around in forums but rather finding myself a job.

I've been playing with computers for some time now, but I can't say they're as much fun as they used to be. My first proper program for work was written in 8086 and had I guess 4KB of RAM and 16KB of EEPROM, and my favourite machine was a PDP-11/44 running RSX-11M -- my, how we celebrated when we upgraded from 256KB to 512KB so that all four of us could edit at once rather than each taking a non-edit day in turn.

Anyway, great job all the Mint contributors. Congratulations!

Welcome to the Mint forums maxmir. You will find a lot of information and help from some very enthusiastic and knowledgeable Mint users. I'm sure you will also want to visit our Mint Community Website at http://community.linuxmint.com/. You will find real-time help in our IRC channels. Just go to Menu>Internet>XChat IRC and when you open it you will automatically be taken to our #linuxmint-chat and #linuxmint-help channels. Have fun with Mint.

The heyday of microcomputer experimenters was early 1980's
  • After the early appliance computers arrived, Apple 1, IBM PC et all, that was over, and people stopped learning the programming aspect and started looking for buy me software and applications..
Nevertheless, Linux has always been the fun place to be, right from the beginning of Minix, then Linux..
