Mintupdate for Ubuntu

Post by Inoki »

Is it possible to use Mintupdate with Ubuntu? If so, how to set it up and get it working. Thanks.

Easiest is to go into your perferred Ubuntu OS and add the Mint Repros to their sources.list

In the terminal, type: sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

Then, add:

Code: Select all

deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian main import backport
Then > sudo apt-get update

After all this is done, you can go into the Synaptic Package Manager and add whichever Mint Apps/Tools you want.

Guys, at the moment I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 and wanted to use Mintupdate on autostart, but the icon doesn't show up. I used the proper command as seen on Mint, which is "mintupdate-launcher" added to startup apps, but the icon doesn't appear in the tray. Any ideas?

After adding the Mint repos...

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install linuxmint-keyring && sudo apt-get update
Should take care of the error.

Nope, doesn't. I got mintupdate installed, only the icon doesn't show up in the tray.

I can't understand why people are trying to shoehorn Mint features into Ubuntu when Linux Mint IS Ubuntu with all the Minty goodness already baked in. If you want MintUpdate in Ubuntu...use Linux Mint!
