[SOLVED] How to create a print to mobi module to nautilus

Post by luis.nando »

Hello community,
in times of environmental policies to save resources, it would be great to have a print to kindle module on nautilus, so I can also save paper. Someone has any ideas about how to create one? I consider using some kind of command from calibre.

Easiest thing to do, try it out..
Your suggestion Calibre, well there is a Linux version and it advertises a large number of convertible file formats..

Kindle 2, can use a PDF file, and there is a print to pdf function available for CUPS/Linux..

Or if that option is not available, a conversion of a kindle file..

  • Of course you can still email you PDF file to free document conversion email at @free.kindle.com and then import into Kindle. Font sizes and “read to me” will then work however for PDF documents the result of such conversion is usually not visually pleasing.
Some other file conversions are available (windows OS)

Thanks for the very fast reply,

but i was thinking if it was possible to create a print to mobi on the print options of nautilus, or to create a command using nautilus-actions to produce a print of a pdf file in the mobi file format?? I`m not used to use the shell, so I wonder if someone could suggest something.

Hello fellows,

I`ve created a Nautilus-Actions entry with the correct command, but I think that`s something wrong in the way I configured Nautilus-Actions, since I get no mobi file.

Here`s the command:

Code: Select all

ebook-convert test.pdf test.mobi --input-profile kindle --output-profile kindle --mobi-ignore-margins --change-justification justify
I have tested it on the terminal and is working. Anexed comes the image of the configuration I made.

After a lot of googling and efforts to understand the Nautilus-Actions and shell I came into one solution, now you can create a small .mobi file from your pdfs and then read on your Kindle. The Nautilus-Actions entry requires the instalation of Calibre first. To use it just import the file http://dl.dropbox.com/u/508558/c12f087e ... 7c.desktop on your Nautilus-Actions window.
