How to get Quick launch buttons in Xfce

I have instaled Xfce 32 bit on my net book.
I am not able to add icons ( like Firefox, Word ..) to desktop or to taskbar as quicklaunch buttons.
Any advice as to how to do this

try this
mouse to desktop, right click, click create launcher
it opens up a windows, type in name (example: firefox) , command (firefox), choose Icon. then click Create.

Should see the Icon on desktop.

Same goes for using and adding icons/launchers to the Xfce-panel.

'right-click anywhere on the 'panel' and select "+Add new items" ... first on the list is Launcher <click it> Follow directions.

The Firefox example works for me.
But, what about /home/rrr/documents/ids.txt ???

Did no know the syntax.
But went thru the way of right click on the document and "Make link"
