If you try

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
and get a message similar to

Code: Select all

Reading package lists... Error!
E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/packages.linuxmint.com_dists_debian_main_binary-i386_Packages
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
See if this will solve it for you.

Code: Select all

sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/* -vf
sudo apt-get update
The update will be a bit slower but then normal there after

I had that same problem. It seems that because my university's network uses a walled garden to authorize use of the internet, it over writes the files with the walled garden's splash page. Deleting the affected files seems to be working.

I seem to have a similar problem after todays update. But this is not solving the issue.

I did not do any updates today since i track the squeeze repos and i have this too, so i dont think it has anything to do with the update, it gets stuck at
99% [Connecting to packages.linuxmint.com (109.234.106.47)
It looks to me it might be the server.

P.S There is another recent thread with this topic, merge topics?

Edit: I changed the Linux mint Software repo to http://linux-mint.froonix.org and now it works as it should for me. i guess the main server are having some issues.

Yes, the two posts are about the same problem.

The servers seem to work properly now.

But I still get the same messages with the Ignored translation indexes.

¿What can I do?

When I run apt-get update I get all those ignored translation indexes as well, but I get no errors when updating.

Clem posted a blog yesterday stating there was a problem with the Mint servers. If you are still getting the error messages, try the terminal commands I posted above. You may want to switch to a different server, a mirror closer to you before running sudo apt-get update or before refreshing MintUpdate.
