After installation no X anymore

Post by Wh1sper »

Hi, I|ve tried both, the Daryna Beta021 and the fresh xfce Beta008 edition, just to be sure.
Ive verified the md5sums, they are ok.
Live CD are working. After installation the gdm tries to start it lasts more than 3 minutes and dies I think. There is no explicit error in /var/log/Xorg.0.log.
I|ve used envy -t to install the latest Nvidia driver. I tired an older one, I wiped all nvidia drives out, tried the gpl nv again. No success. This is very strange.
the log in /var/log/gdm/ says

Code: Select all

X Window System Version 1.3.0
Release Date: 19 April 2007
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0, Release 1.3
Build Operating System: Linux Ubuntu (xorg-server 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-12ubuntu8)
Current Operating System: Linux Asus 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Sun Oct 14 23:05:12 GMT 2007 i686
Build Date: 29 September 2007
        Before reporting problems, check http://wiki.x.org
to make sure that you have the latest version.

The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports:
> Warning: Type "ONE_LEVEL" has 1 levels, but <RALT> has 2 symbols
> Ignoring extra symbols
Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server
Synaptics DeviceInit called
SynapticsCtrl called.
Synaptics DeviceOn called
Synaptics DeviceOff called
Synaptics DeviceOff called
the Synaptics DeviceOff called is written when gdm does a retry.
It look like there is no error.
Stopping gdm and starting startx does not help.
a error in .xsession-errors appears

Code: Select all

x-session-manager: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0: undefined symbol: g_once_init_enter_impl
the server dies.
I do not know what might be the reason.
Any help or suggestion?

I have tracked down the problem a bit.

Code: Select all

 /usr/lib/libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0
My libgtk2.0-0 is 2.12.0-1ubuntu

I've installed kde, including kdm. It works, but my browser firefox and thunderbird and all the other stuff with gtk are not working. of course they need this lib !

It might not be what you were hoping for in terms of help, but perhaps you should post/move this in the "Bugs in Daryna" section...
I suspect most people who have a clue about what could be wrong will have more chances of spotting it...

Good luck!
I don't have a solution, but I do admire the problem.

In the meanwhile I think it comes if envy is going to be installed. Ill give it a try with a fresh installation by avoiding to use envy.
In the moment I am using sidux. But there is a nvidia problem too at the present. hhm really disturbing
