GDM3 slow performance
I have a fast and snappy boot up until the gdm start - it takes 10-15 seconds for the login screen to pop-up. After that the overall performance is well and I see no slow-downs. I thought it might be a resolution issue and supplied my own xorg.conf, but the problem remains...

Re: GDM3 slow performance
If GDM3 is slow, just replace it with KDM or LXDM (from KDE or LXDE). Both can load Gnome, you only need to install one of them from the Software Manager. This is a much better solution than using the tutorial, you are still able to shutdown your computer and mount drives without terminal commands.
