GIMP 2.4.1
I'm trying to upgrade to GIMP 2.4.1. When I try to upgrade using Synaptic Package Manager. It just list the 2.2 version. Would it be all right just to download the update and install it on top of the old version? Or, would it be best to unstall the old version first?

I've not downloaded it yet. I ran "sudo apt-get install gimp" and got this:Husse wrote:Is it a .deb file?
If so I believe there's no big problem to install on top.
The version I've got is 2.2.Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
gimp is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
I think you literally have to download the deb from the gimp site and then double click the file, it will automatically install after that, no need to use apt.

At their web site it says that the Debian files are being tested or is unstable. It says that the source code for version 2.4 is stable. Think I'll just wait on the Debian files. Don't think that I could compile the source code to get it installed on my system.carlos wrote:I think you literally have to download the deb from the gimp site and then double click the file, it will automatically install after that, no need to use apt.
Thanks for the help.
