So i am wanting to not only change the login but eventually make my own login screen. what is the difference between gdm3, gdm2, and gdm. what do i use to make the new login and test it? i have read a handful of how to's and they all say different things and all are based on ubuntu. one how to suggests xnest as a way to test the theme. others mention plymouth which doesn't appear to be installed on this distro. not sure if i should use Plymouth will it break debian mint?
any pointers in the direction of an updated how to on this topic?
