A few bits of polish

Postby alun_sundry on Fri May 20, 2011 5:29 am

I would really like to see this sort of thing worked on more.

1. This sort of theming botch ironed out - the Indicator Applet is inconsistently themed
2. For toolbars and widgets to fit properly, especially in Firefox and Open/Libre Office

Mint-X is otherwise great-looking. I've looked into fixing it myself but despite a slightly above novice grasp of gtk theming it's beyond me. To me it seems odd that Canonical or Novell haven't paid someone to solve this general issue by now. Whenever commercial organisations use Linux these things are ironed out so that things look professional, for example with Android tablets and the Linpus OS on the Acer Aspire One.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Nice sentiments but you should understand that these are selling a product that they have a great deal of control over both with hardware and software. Neither Mint, ubuntu or in general any linux distro has that advantage, they are providing a 'free' product which in large parts, including the themes and applications, is simply a collection of third party developments over which they have no control.
[Edit] your original post and add [SOLVED] once your question is resolved.

I didn't see I'd had a reply. Just wanted to add to clarify that I don't want to look unappreciative, that wasn't where I was speaking from. I love the dialogue that does happen, like this:

http://blog.barisione.org/2007-09/the-t ... -as-gummy/

which almost makes me wish I had time to master the code and contribute myself. But I suppose I just wanted to make a little bit of a sound about the issue to nag in an endeared way, because I'd love to Linux to breakthrough massively, just like I'd like various musicians that I've liked who are without even modest wealth and comfort to be doing better, and I think it's a bit defeatist to dwell on a feeling of lack of control when many talented and passionate people have made a great contribution and with a bit of fair and conscientious criticism can go a bit further.
