Keeping GRUB with Mint

Post by vinoman »

I have PC with Mint 3.1 on the hda hdd and PCLOS on the hdb hdd.

When I boot up, I come to the Mint boot screen. If I install Klikit .1-8 on the hdb drive, since it uses the same installer how to I make it list Klikit on the Mint boot screen without Klikit becoming the default boot screen?

There may be some other way to do it, but this is how I do it.
I install the new Linux distro "the normal way" without caring for grub at all.
Then I boot into the newly installed distro and repair grub

The final stage is to copy the important line(s) from the new menu.lst to the one in Mint you want to use so you can boot the new one too.
And I've done this a few times now :)

If Grub is loaded on the hd0 drive which is Mint, I should see that it stays that setting when I install Klikit?

If Klikit uses grub (and I suppose it does) let it install its grub in its partition, then repair grub to use the Mint one
It should not touch Mint
Repair Grub sounds a bit "desperate", but it's actually just writing a bit to the hard disk - and that can be done very often s you know.
