Daryna XFCE CE Final long delay

Post by merlwiz79 »

I am sorry but there is going to a long Delay for the Final release of Daryna XFCE CE.
I am leaving tomorrow to go and visit family and friends.(16hrs on the road)
I won't be back until the 1st week of December.
Them my wife will be having a surgery the 2nd week of December and depending on it she may need another.

Then I have the bugs to work out.
Bugs:

The main bug is Firefox, it is using a lot of memory, for 13 tabs it use 60MBs or more.
Daryna(main) and Xubuntu Gutsy use only 48MBs with the same 13 tabs with the same version of Firefox and default settings.
I am to the point of customizing Xubuntu to have the same settings as Daryna to find what is causing it.
SeaMonkey has this problem as well.
Firefox-3.0 doesn't.

Firefox Freezes when trying to play Real media.(In Daryna Gnome Beta as well)

Haven't looked into.

Installation of latex209 has produced an error message (as in Daryna Gnome Beta).

Haven't looked into.

Loud beeps coming for nowhere?
http://www.linuxmint.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=41610
I don't have any system sounds set but people have loud beeps.
I can't think what would cause it since I can't reproduce it.
Need to find all the apps that they installed and what sound wav file they are hearing.

I hoped to have it done before I left but the Firefox problem has keep me for doing that.
Once I fix that isn't from Gutsy, I can release the final release.

Merlwiz,
Thanks for all your work on the XFCE edition. I've tried it and it looks very good. Perhaps using Opera or another browser would help those that have a problem with memory, at least until a solution is found. Anyway, have a nice trip and best wishes for your wife.

Merlwiz,

thank you for your great work on XFCE.
Hope everything will go fine and your wife will be well soon.
No problem with delay, it's worth of waiting for good things. And with a peace of mind that your family is fine you will be able to do your best for Mint.
XFCE Mint could be a nice Christmas gift for all.

btw. I like kenetics' suggestion about replacing FF with Opera.

This shouldn't be the case.
I hope to just have a script do most of the updating.
If you made a /home partition, it would be easy to install the final and keep it.
I hope I find what's causing the problems soon.

Just tried the Beta and looks very good so far. Haven't run into any major glitches that I can see (though I just running the liveCD). Keep it up MerlWiz I look forward to the final release. Who knows by then my World of Warcraft addiction may be satisfied and I can switch to linux once and for all :D.

Here is how to run WoW on Linux.(Ubuntu/Linux Mint)
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WorldofWarcraft
As for Linux Mint XFCE CE, I still haven't found what is causing Firefox to use more RAM than it's suppose to.
I was working on it then all of a sudden, with out me changing anything in Xubuntu Gutsy, It started to use more RAM.
I have to start over again and hopefully I will see what's causing it.
My hand is beginning to have pain in them a lot, so it's slowing me down.

Try working your hand muscles with one of those stress balls (about medium resistance). Seriously works wonders for my hands when doing lots of computer stuff. And thanks for the WoW link but I've tried everything already. It amounts to my 200M ATI card not being fully supported in Wine yet (apparently). I can get WoW running decently (10fps) as long as I do not go into a town or place with more than a few things moving. If I attack only one thing at once it is ok too, but any more stress than that and my FPS drops to something like 1-2fps. And after about 15 minutes of play (regardless of intensity) WoW unfailingly freezes up on me. Other games of mine work fine under Wine, only WoW is the issue (well and other extreamly graphics sucking games).
