UPDATE: i am happy to report that this now works in mint 11 for me :-)

UPDATE: (again). i shouldn't be surprised, but when i restarted and booted back into linux it doesn't work anymore. now all i get is a black background in place of where my wallpapers once were. it worked before i rebooted.
