SOLVED: Cannot connect to HP printer via Samba

Postby srdjan.gligoric on Thu Jun 02, 2011 5:02 pm

I have two computers: one is win 7 with HP LaserJet m1120 mfp connected with USB and the other one is dual boot Mint 11 and Mint 10. Computers are in Local Area Network.
On Mint 10 I select Menu ->Printing -> Add -> Network printer and I do have line with option: Windows printer via Samba. I can print from Mint 10 via Samba on HP normally.

On Mint 11 I select Menu ->Printing -> Add -> Network printer and I do not have line with option: Windows printer via Samba. Thus, I cannot print from Mint 11 to HP via Samba.

Why is it so? Both Mint editions are fully updated, Printing -> Server -> Settings... is the same on both editions. My impression is that Mint 11 is slightly faster, but the printer is "must have" option. Is there any solution for this problem?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I wonder if the samba client isn't installed:
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install smbclient
sudo apt-get install python-smbc

Bravo! You were right: this solved the problem and now I can see "Windows printer via Samba" and install my HP printer.

Unfortunately, I cannot print becouse there is obviously some other problem. During instalation of Mint 11 something went wrong and I got the message: Installer crashed ... I thought it was something minor, but it seems that the only solution would be to reinstall Mint 11.

In any case, thank you once more for your time and for your help, I hope this will be usefull for someone else, too.
