I wonder if anyone here has used it, it seems to be a highly regarded KDE distro.

I've been using it for some time now.

I have to say t beats Mint KDE...

I keep reading nothing but good things about Pardus. I try not to have too many distros installed (but, how many is too many???) and I like to keep the ones I have for at least a year and I'm kinda going in other directions right now so I haven't installed it. But it looks like something I'll get around to eventually.

The best though, would be to go to load Crunchbang, point sources.list file to debian sid instead of stable (and maybe comment out the sources from Crunchbang) and do a dist-upgrade. You get a sweet pre-configured openbox Debian Sid. Unless, you prefer spending a couple of hours on configuring it.

If Linux Mint fluxbox ever becomes debian based, you could do the same thing.

One vrkalak posted about ... Venix 2.summin, sighs ... looks like some light weight, linuxy, debian based goodness. Then in my favorite pursuit ( wasting time online n ignoring more important stuff.) I came across this un. Sabayon ... looked like they had some light-weight stuff. Their kde was really attractive imo. Though being a resource miser doubt I could stand knowing it's eating up my precious ram !?!?!?! D: Their website seemed slower than mud too ... Not sure da upgrade process n install would be all that joyous an experience, lol. Is gentoo based .. which never used anything of the sort so far. Makes it more appealing in an odd way.

So far I'm managing to resist da siren call of da distro hop ! Wonder if folks have tried these out n what they found/thought about em. Why are there so many attractive looking linux distro's in the world !?!??! Are these people trying to make me perpetually discontent with all these choices and amazing diversity !??!?! D: Grrrrrrr.

Well, provided you don't make a mistake when adding/installing distro's I accidentally lost about 500Gb of data one time by rushing through installation options & wiping three HDD's. Luckily, 99% of the data didn't really matter (or was easily replaceable). I can laugh about it now

Ouch ... well glad wasn't nothing really important. You aren't kidding though ... one careless click too many and someone's in a world of hurt. Guess that would be covered under the "not necessarily damaging" part, lol . And a great reason to back up your important stuff. Been a few tense moments here and there so far. Could lose some stuff ... Almost like it's a part of the thrill though.

Will I bork it ? Will I be able to unbork it ?!??!?! D: Too late ... gone too far, ( flashing screens of mystical looking symbols n numbers, I have no idea what many of them mean. Creeping status bars ... ... ... ) hope I did the right stuff !!!

* Debian & LMDE: I was just distro-hopping until I found LMDE. Simple, better looking than debian, fast, rolling,...perfect for me at the moment.
* Ubuntu: just because I like their idea of linux for masses...and I want to know how this will turn out....I believe that ubuntu's success will be also win for other distros and linux kernel.
* Arch: I don't have enough time and knowledge at the moment to set my perfect Arch desktop, but I believe that Arch might be my future.
* Scientific Linux: I am physicist and this distro is put together by CERN...do I need to say more?


* and then the rest...I like to experiment and try new things....but for the near future, LMDE is my choice.

My mint 9 Fluxbox behaving a bit strange.

I like mint Fluxbox a lot and am getting on well.
Today I downloaded two dvd and one cd distro(s), only to find that my dvd writer wouldn't write to a dvd, only to a cd.
Luckily the cd distro which was Archbang got written fine. I just tried it out live. it it looks very exciting, so I will be installing it.
I have one GB of memory and the live cd uses 7%.

Fluxbox strangeness:
When I first installed mint Fluxbox it used 13% memory.
There have been a number of subsequent reboots, say 5.
Each reboot, the mem percent usage has gone down by one or two percent.
This latest reboot after my live test: MEM USAGE --> 7% (-- same as Archbang )

I am usually, an Xfce fanatic, but I love Openbox, as well/
Now, trying to learn about Fluxbox.
Surprisingly, Fluxbox is extremely well documented and has some great Wiki/Wiki pages.
Just as easy to customize as Openbox is. Light and super-fast.

I, for one, would love to see a Fluxbox and/or Openbox editions of LMDE.

Sweet. I didn't know you could get the latest kernel in the LTS version. Did you use a ppa?

You can install its DEB packages to get 2.6.39.

And Ubuntu have a PPA for LTS versions.
