Memory Leak in mintupdate discovered

I noticed a memory leak in mintupdate applet.
Everytime it checks forupdates it increases with 100 till 200 KB, but it doesnt release the memory... I noticed it in System Monitor.
I dont know where to report it..
you can simlulate it with hitting refresh everytime and look at the System Monitor, the memory usage increases...
Also found out when doing the mintupdate program itself it doesnt release memory also

Just a little thought.

Update stays in the Notification area till you right click on it and close it. It then releases the memory used.

As long as it is in the notification area, resources used will continue to be used. Until closed completely out and not just minimized.

Hereby I speak about the applet, and not about the program itself, I didn't touch mintupdate program , All I did was rightclick the notification icon and hit check update, to make it increase the process with 200KB a time.

The notification icon is part of the program itself, it's not an applet. Ergo, what's been said still applies; The program will continue to use resources until it's completely closed and not just running in the background, hidden in the system tray.

Maybe the correct sollution for this would be for mint update to, one finished, kill itself and respawn, freeing up that wasted ram.

I'm not sure 200kb is really that significant amount of RAM that it absolutely *must* be freed no matter what.

Mind you, I'm also running a system with 4 GB of RAM installed and I rarely begin to approach 1.5 GB actually in use, so 200 KB really seems insignificant to me. On a system with 256 MB or even 512 MB of RAM I suppose that 200 KB might be a little more useful.

you do have a point there, i have 4 and im sure i never would have noticed it, but those with less ram surely will.

on another note, there is always a chance that a memory leak could expand or cause the whole pc or other apps to have erratic behavior including data loss, so whether or not it is a leak should be investigated.
