codename "Laura"

Postby icarus5555 on Fri Nov 26, 2010 3:09 pm

Hey Linux Mint community. When Linuxmint 12 comes out could the codename please be "Laura"?

A friend of mine might be convinced to accept the way of linux if it happens. She loves our motto "from freedom came elegance" but that isn't enough. :?

--heh, I just like those names..

I don't know if that will work...don't get me wrong those are all great names and I'm sure finding the perfect one for LInuxMInt is difficult but...LinuxMint 12 should have a name that starts with L, you know to keep the names in alphabetical order.

respectfully yours

With an alternate spelling it could be Laelia, from

LÆLIA: Feminine form of Roman Latin Lælius... This is the name of a beautiful orchid flower named after one of the Vestal Virgins of Roman mythology.

I suggest Laura. That's my name, so I would be even more pleased to use an OS named Laura :D Or Lydia - that's my mother's name.

If I'm not mistaken it should also end with "a". Any other things that need to be considered ?

Since we start with L, I'd also continue with I... this would rhyme with LInux and MInt. From here I sought for something that sounds elegant for me, and came up with:

Lisa - smart, elegant... unsophisticated...
Leena\Lina, which means light. freedom (free man) and palm tree - which is green too...
Linea\Linnea - sounds sleek (Linux Mint Linnea - how does that sound ? - I'd say that comes out of the mount with ease... )

The only names I like so far in this threat are:

Larissa strikes me as somewhat too sexy for an OS, but hey. Lancia is pure glam, elegant, clean.

I like Linda. The connection with the word beautiful fits Linux Mint very well.
