NICs not connecting/ sorted - sort of

Post by Kurt_Aust »

On my box (Gigabyte GA-K8NS Pro) I have 2 NICs, the built-in Marvell Yukon Gigabit NIC and a PCI Realtek 8139 Fast ethernet NIC.

I use the Realtek NIC as my router only has a 10/100 switch anyway and just about every OS has integral drivers for the 8139 series.

Unfortunately Mint 4 doesn't seem to activate this NIC properly, I've tried turning off roaming, setting it to use DHCP and setting a valid static IP address.

The really strange thing is that it worked fine with Mint 3.0, any ideas?

Should work in Gutsy if it worked in Feisty....
So should work in Daryna if it worked in Cassandra/Celena
But there has been changes between Feisty and Gutsy in networking.
How about the other NIC?
And are both active? You may need to turn off the built in (in BIOS probably)

Well I tried turning off one of the NICs, but the problem still persists.

Mind you I've also checked Gutsy (live CD) and the problem is there as well.

Looks like I can't use Mint until this problem is fixed upstream.

Try to remove the pci card. In my (extensive) experience two of the same often brings problems...

Tried yanking the PCI card on the weekend, but the problem still persists.

Irritating to put it mildly, I'll probably take another look when Mint 5 comes out. Hopefully it will be fixed by then as it seems that others are having network problems with Ubuntu 7.10 as well.
