Menu problems

Postby /Zoran\ on Tue Jun 14, 2011 5:12 pm

Today i installed LMDE Xfce, it was an older DVD since i downloaded quite some time ago, then i updated firefox and thunar, only these two. When i rebooted my panels and menu were changed, some parts of menu are missing, like logout, and i can't find link to regular terminal, only root termial which is in accessries. Look at the pic:

I read that this could be changed with a .menu file, i tried changing this in the menu Properties but nothing helped, why is menu incomplete now?
Can anyone post their xfce-applications.menu file, cause i would like to have full menu if it's possible, pretty please... :(

Thanks for the reply, i tried to add that .menu file but that didn't fix the issue, anyway i managed to add link to terminal in the launcher plugin of the panel, so i can now start it from there i don't have to alt + f2 in order to start it, it not a fix exactly but it works for me.

This seems to be problem with upgrading Xfce from version 4.6 to 4.8

Doesn't seem to matter how you upgraded, either manually or the repros automatically did it.

Seems to be a problem with integrating the new 4.8 panel Menu into the old applications.menu
The original/old applications menu file was changed and the new 4.8 panel doesn't know what to do?

I have searched through the Xfce Forums and Xfce/Wiki but do not find any solution, other than to first remove/purge the old Xfce4.6 before upgrading to 4.8.

In my LMDX install ... I am just using the 'mixed-up' panel menu, as is. :P

I know where the applications.menu file was kept, but it's not there. I suppose if you have access to another system that still has the old applications.menu, you could copy and paste it to 'somewhere' ... might work.

I saw slightly different menu problems, but perhapps this will help your problems as well... here's a way I was able to get the xfce menu back in proper order that survives a reboot:

download this package:
http://packages.debian.org/sid/all/libg ... n/download

then run:
sudo dpkg --force-all --purge libgarcon-common

and
sudo dpkg -i libgarcon-common_0.1.7-1_all.deb

now your menu will look better, but it won't survive a reboot. To make that happen, I did this before rebooting:
cp /etc/xdg/menus/* ~/.config/menus/

its ugly but it seems to do the trick until the fixed menus can get in the repos.
