No sound On Custom Comp with Mint 4.0

Post by grrrlshapedthing »

So after a year of testing various Linux "flavours" trying to find the one i liked the best i ended up with mint Bianca only to find out it was several upgrades behind so last night after 3 days of downloading the ISO did a clean install of Daryna and now I have no sound, my machine was custome built for me and my sound card is SB0090 Audigy Player, can anyone help me out?

I just wanted to add that I'm overall really happy with linux and hope to be able to contribute something in the future!

Welcome to Mint grrrlshapedthing
There are problems with drivers for Creative in Linux as well as for Windows
Try to disable the sound in your motherboard (if any)
If that does not help post the output of
lsmod
If you don't see anything to do with sound there post the output of
lspci
Searching for your soundcard gives mostly hits in non english fora

lsmod gives a listing (ls) of loaded modules (lsmod) and modules is the proper Linux term for drivers
And you have a whole bunch of sound modules loaded, so I would expect your sound card to work. Go through all sound settings, including the selection of sound source ("the large volume control" > Archive) and especially check that not mute is activated somewhere
It still may be creative, but .....

btw my music prefrences are all set to multichannel play back it's the only way i can hear the test sound... but that's the only sound i can hear... no other system sounds
