mint 11 update woes
each day when I come in from work I notice that the update shield in the bottom right corner has a issue. so I click on it and it downloads a few things and gives me this error
E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/packages.linuxmint.com_dists_katya_import_i18n_Translation-en
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
so I type in this (sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/* -vf) and the update works but the same thing happens each day. hmmm.

Hi 81golfcaddy,
You omitted to say which Mint version you were referring to.
Are you talking about Debian based Mint LMDE 201101 or one of the Ubuntu-based versions?

Re: mint 11 update woes
Hi:
I'm having a similar issue. My mintupdate shows the following message:
I just upgraded from Mint 10 to 11 using mintbackup to restore my old configuration. Everything seems to be working fine, except for this. Thanks.

Re: mint 11 update woes
You'll need to change your sources.list to point to Natty rather than Katya for the Ubuntu repos. To do so, run 'gksu gedit /etc/apt/sources.list' (without quotes) from the GNOME run dialog (Alt+F2) and change every instance of "katya" after an ubuntu link with "natty" (again, without quotes).mchojrin wrote:Hi:

I've done this and copied and pasted the bottom code and I still get the same error. It worked about a week ago. I'm also using Mint 11.
Re: mint 11 update woes
Do you think you could possibly paste the contents of your /etc/apt/sources.list file here so we can look at them then? I'm somewhat stumped as to why that would be happening if the entries have been properly corrected...
Re: mint 11 update woes
I have pretty much the same problem, every time I add a new repo I have to change it from katya to natty, heres my sources.list
the first entry if obviously the mint repo, but this is out of my league so I'm all ears?
Code: Select all
deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ katya main upstream import
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty-updates main restricted universe mu$
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty-security main restricted universe $
deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/ natty partner
deb http://extras.ubuntu.com/ubuntu natty main
deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/ natty free non-free
# deb http://archive.removed/ubuntu natty-removed apps
# deb http://archive.removed/ubuntu natty-removed games
Re: mint 11 update woes
Same issue here:
deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ katya main upstream import
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty-updates main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty-security main restricted universe multiverse

deb http://extras.ubuntu.com/ubuntu natty main
deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/ natty free non-free
#deb http://archive.removed/ubuntu natty-removed apps
#deb http://archive.removed/ubuntu natty-removed games
And still get the error:
ERROR###ERROR###ERROR###ERROR###ERROR###ERROR###ERROR
E:Encountered a section with no Package: header, E:Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/archive.canonical.com_ubuntu_dists_natty_partner_i18n_Translation-en, E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.

Re: mint 11 update woes
delete all files under "var/lib/apt/lists" then
goto terminal write
"sudo apt-get update" (without quotes)
get new package files.. now after open software package.. enjoy..
