[SOLVED] Updated kernal but old still listed in Grub

Post by JeffShepherd »

Hi everyone,

I have updated the kernal on my LMDE istallation to 2.6.38-2-amd64 from 2.6.32-5-amd64. Grub has been updated with the new kernal but the old one is still showing, how do I remove it?

Thanks,
Jeff

If you open up Synaptic Manager and search for "linux-image", you should see all your linux kernel packages installed. Be sure to remove any packages that start with "linux-headers" AND "linux-image" that relate to the kernel that you want to remove (I assume you are referring to the stock .32-5 kernel). Removing linux-headers will remove basically the core components of the kernel, and linux-image will remove it from the GRUB menu.
the beauty of linux is that the rabbit hole goes as deep as you want it to go.
