Just had the bad thing on this setup with LMDE.

First incidence of total hang.
Mouse pointer stop, no response to any key, need to press power button for 5 second to shutdown.

not sure what is the problem.

I updated to the new mintUpdate update manager followed the instructions as set out on the blog and I must say worked like charm.

It found the updates needed, it tells you want to do incase things go awry and last but not least, it's working beautifully!

I'm using LMDE 10 Kernel 2.6.38-2-amd64 & mintUpdate update manager

have changed my sources.list to point to latest repo:

then installed the new mintupdate-debian

Thought I would get brave and put the wifes hp on this also now, so far alls well after update (lucky for me ).
Its a 64bit mines a 32bit gateway so should see how it reacts on both a 32 and a 64 bit system at least.

Had one issue with my samsung cpl-310 laser (it always hooked up automatically before this update on the 32bit) Just in case anyone has this issue also, just download the drivers from samsung site run the install.sh and it should be alright again (mine is anyhow after a few stab attempts of installing different methods), this one worked best for me.

I've got both my laptop and desktop pointing to incoming repos now. Have done updates on both machines, and everything is working fine. I also reverted gnome terminal @ terminal data, back to 2.30 and all looks good again. Keep up the great work Clem, and everyone else on the mint team.

Might be a stupid question but how do you revert the terminal and terminal data back to 2.3?
Not an expert here by any means but would be interested in this one.

samriggs, here's how i did it. using synaptic I Added repo : deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main contrib non-free, and disabled other repos temporarily.
Refresh synaptic, search for gnome terminal and then go to packages and force version 2.30 of terminal data and terminal. Then disable squeeze repo and enable other repos listed earlier in this thread. Hope that helps.

After this question you might ask me to go back and play in the kiddie pool. I'm board right now, got Mint 10 working correctly on my netbook and am just playing with the desktop.

Would it work if I downloaded the old LMDE to setup a duel boot from Mint10 then make this changes? Maybe try playing in the big pool awhile? Might be good to have a Dork point of view on the test .

wyrdoak, you can use the old iso, change the repos after install and before the first update, install the new mintupdate-debian, but if i can give you an advise, just this first time use the terminal with

because the first update normally has a few issues and you can control them better though the terminal output

I think it was in 2008 that I first heard talk about the possibility of Linux Mint being based on Debian and not Ubuntu. Since that time, I have attempted to prepare myself for the change. I downloaded live DVDs of LMDE in September and December of last year. I have worked with it and had some success and many failures. I have used Gnome 64 and 32 bit. I moved to Xfce 64 and 32 bit. For many different reasons, I was not able to have a system that was stable. From reading the forums I guess I was not alone. Most times, I'm sure I was at fault. Yesterday, I spent over eight hours attempting to install, update and use Gnome 64 & 32 bit. I also tried Xfce 64 bit. I don't remember how many installs and re-installes I attempted.
I used zerozero's suggestions: viewtopic.php?f=141&t=76556 along with Clem's instructions: http://blog.linuxmint.com/ For some reason I still could not make it work. I was planning to post my problems but many others have posted the same issues.
Today I installed LMDE Xfce 32 bit. I am using a AMD 64 X2 desktop. After the install, I followed Clem and zerozero's instructions. The Xfce 32 bit worked and still is working as well as Linux Mint 11 'Katya'. I for one, am very happy and know I can continue using my favorite Linux Destro no matter who it is based on. Clem you are right. Thank you to everyone responsible.

Thanks a bunch blueheron going to do that on my system and my wifes (I also am using hers for this testing period and it turned her terminal all white when it should of been a nice purple she likes).
Wyrdoak theres no such thing as a stupid question (like the one I just asked ) everyone starts off somewhere and we all been there I am still there for the most part but I keep plugging away and learning and asking and when I can help out.

I'd like to help. However, I have questions. Before I start, I must clarify the reason I have LMDE, is to test the stability and usability first, particularly to see if it is time for me desktop with relatively new hardware. The are also couple of small issues I'm seeing some improvement over the rolling update. So right now my LMDE installation is for testing and risk taking (with light everyday use). I'd like to stay updated with debian testing at the current rate.

1. Would incoming be the same as current debian testing?
2. If I stay with debian testing, and report bug and issue, would it help imcoming test?

1- afaik, not exactly because incoming is frozen for a period, then updated before latest to test breakages and regressions;
2- yes, you can flag issues that are about to arrive;
