Mint won't update

Whenever I try to update mint I get repository problems such as W: GPG error: http://ppa.launchpad.net natty Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 4EA3A911D48B8E25 any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I haven't been able to update at all, although I'm getting a different error than the OP. First I get this message:
The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.


and when I close it, it gives this error:
E: Malformed line 1 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/local-repository.list (URI parse)
E: Unable to lock the list directory


then:

E: Malformed line 1 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/local-repository.list (URI parse)
E: The list of sources could not be read.
Go to the repository dialog to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.


I have changed the repo to a local one (it suggested a Canadian server. I live in Kansas, USA), but nothing has changed. Any help is appreciated.

I have the exact same problem also the package manager will not open, just reinstalling mint should fix it?

and post the results here. Something appears to be wrong with the entry according to the errors.
If you accept - and I do - that freedom of speech is important, then you are going to have to defend the indefensible. That means you are going to be defending the right of people to read, or to write, or to say, what you don't say or like or want said.

I too am unable to update. I get the following error when I attempt to check for updates:

E: Malformed line 1 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/local-repository.list (dist parse)
E: The list of sources could not be read.
Go to the repository dialog to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.


I think I must have changed what was originally in the local-repository.list. Now it is "deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/unstable/ubuntu XBMC", which is obviously wrong. Question is, what should it be? I'm using Linux Mint 10.10.

I get the error message that broken packages have to be fixed first. I tried repairing, then tried running apt-get upgrade and was able to get some packages and they installed. Then running apt-get update gets most packages updated except for Firefox global menu 4.0.1+build1 and Firefox 5.0+build1.

I should clarify. Using Mint Update, I cannot apply the Level two updates for Firefox. I can update everything *but* the aforementioned Firefox updates via Terminal.

I experienced the same problem where everything was resolved except the 2 level 2 firefox entries. Is there a resolution to this problem?

Hi Guys,

I installed Mint 11 Katya on an eeepc netbook today and was able to use mint update right after installing.
The update froze and crashed so I tried to relaunch it but was told apt was in use by something else.

I rebooted and started the remaining updates. I installed the remaining updates, but wanted to make sure so when it was done I relaunched mint update to check.

I got a message that I needed to run
Code: Select all
sudo dpkg --configure -a


I did that then tried to update again.
Now I get a message that every attempt to connect to the update server failed.
Synaptic gives the same error - failed.

Mint update however says that my system is up to date.

When I run sudo apt-get update in the terminal I get:

What does IGN mean? Ignore?

Any new info on this?

Did anyone ever get this fixed? I have been trying to do updates since I install but still struggling. Seems like most updates install but I have about 50 that won't. I have spent many hours Googling the problem and trying different suggestions. Changing mirrors, verifying sources are for Natty not Katya. I don't want to go to far before I mess up my system for good and have to reinstall.

I am running x64 LM 11 so I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

Hello all,

I have a similar problem with mint update. I am running Mint 11 and my updates have been fine till now. Please see attachment for my error. Any body facing the same problem or with a solution?

Run these 3 lines of code for the "Merglist /var/lib/apt/lists" error.

sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/* -vf

sudo apt-get clean all

Whatever happened to the original poster. Looks like the poster never checked in after the initial post. I hope this has helped others.
Maybe this topic can be marked as solved in order to clean up the forums?
I try my best to help, its all I can do.
