Window Menu breaks Compiz

Postby Forkjulle on Thu Jul 28, 2011 5:05 pm

Just noticed that, if I click on the Window Menu at the top left of any Nautilus / application window, then the window decorations completely vanish. I then have to open Compiz and deselect / reselect Window Decorations for them to appear.

Does this happen to anybody else?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Yes. Read this solution: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=55&t=74327#p444922

That will fix that issue. There is also a know issue with the Cube in Compiz (see Linux Mint 11 release notes). If you are not using it, leave it, else follow this post to downgrade Compiz to a more stable version that will allow the Cube to function: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=74869

I don't use any Compiz effects other than what Mint 11 has as default. In fact, I turned off "animations" even. I don't like too much bling.

Will look at your solution now, thanks.

I didn't mean to presume, I don't like the bling myself. I added the remark for downgrade of Compiz in case you did want all the crazy effects. Happy to hear I'm not the only one who doesn't need it

What happens when you downgrade Compiz? What does your desktop end up looking like? I'm interested in two things: shadows behind the windows, and centering of the windows when opening.

I think the changes are minor. I've not downgraded, because the standard configuration of Compiz (with above fix) works fine for me. The most obvious thing you miss after downgrade is the easy window maximization or half-maximization (when you drag a window to the left or right border of the screen, it expands to fill half the screen, and when you drag a window to the top of the screen, it expands to fill the entire screen).
