open terminal and
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get -f install
will proceed with the broken update and then
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
after this the update should be sane and you can again use mintupdate, not before.

thanks but no thanks on dist-upgrade
my connection is too slow
and I'd like to stay with LM10 and not go to LMDE (which I've found to be quite buggy and unstable)

my original post stated LXDE (my mistake)

you see? you have already LMDE installed, willing or not, and the dist-upgrade is the only way to deal with the first big update

Btw, i would just like to add that the dist-upgrade command wouldn't pull you over from LM10 to LMDE, not even from LM10 to LM11, it would only update your system completely;

If what you're looking is a replacement for LM9-xfce, the only option (keeping xfce) is really the debian-based one you have installed;
or you can try LXDE: LM11-LXDE rc2 is now in testing http://www.linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=87

thank you,

I was testing LM 64 bit in the hopes of replacing my (go to) LM9XFCE system which is becoming slightly unstable.
So far LMDE has been bad and horrible on laptops

I do love the LXDE (unless LM puts pulseaudio in it)
