This shows well what I said: "GNOME3 is not for users. GNOME3 is not for productivity. GNOME3 is not for mentally sane people. GNOME3 is the demise of the entire GNOME project"...

EDIT: http://twitpic.com/5lxlc6 ...or GNOME 3.1.2 might just be stupid.

GNOME 3.1.2 is still a terrible failure, even in the Classic mode.

Also, from the last DistroWatch Weekly, a comment by Jesse Smith from the DistroWatch Team:

>> "what about Gnome 3 Fallback Mode? ... Someone should talk about whether this is a viable option, now and in the future."

It's not. The fall back mode looks like Gnome 2, but is missing features. It probably shouldn't be considered as a long term alternative.

i have read only first post in this thread and i pretty liked the idea. I haven't used KDE for years already. I use Gnome because its just simpler. Even haven't used KDE4 yet. (Actually ill take a look.) I pretty like how K3B looks on my RFRemix.

KDE has always been trying to copy Windows. And Gnome has always been more Macish. Not in the sense of copying. But just gui designs evolve and someone implements new ideas faster and someone slower. Look at Lion's interface (writing from it right now) it reminds me Gnome 3 that I've used last view month in so many aspects.

Kubuntu could be easily a good base for Mint. I think. If that is ever going to happen.

It's all about where is Mint heading. I always knew Mint as Linux for Wndows switchers. And KDE has always been also the same. Linux gui for Windows switchers. So it makes perfect sense. Only Gnome 3 and especially Unity appeal more to me because i like more the kind of Macish interface / user experience ideas. In the sense of keeping it simple.
Its eather KDE or this: viewtopic.php?f=29&t=72725

But who am i to say. I don't really use Mint. Have tried it in times of Ubutnu 9 reseases. And thats it. :)
Im so excited to see how all this evolution of Linux Desktop is and / will be shifting right now. hehe :)) With all this Unity and so on. :)

well kde 4.7 has just been released and is very cool, everything works better, even the main menu is nicer and easier to use.

http://www.kde.org/announcements/4.7/

before thinking about making kde default, the mint kde edition needs more luv and revamps, better looks (less blue please!!!!!!!!) and some more tools.

if that happens, then kde could become the serious alternative.

I don't think KDE as Mint's default GUI would be a bad way to go. I really don't care what the default GUI is, but perhaps KDE would please the most people.
