This is from Clem's original blog:

each update pack is first made available on the “Incoming” repository for testers and experienced users to give us feedback, and then later on the “Latest” repository for all other users to enjoy.

I read that to mean that they are both monthly (which is why I won't use it). If you think about it there wouldn't be much point in having testers testing one set of packages when users are going to be given a different set, the point of the system is that the 'pack' is handled as one unit by both groups (I think).

Having said that an idea occurred to me recently that might in some way get around this monthly wait followed by huge upgrade cycle, but I don't think this breakages thread is the place to discuss it so I will start a new one and get it rubbished there instead

Yes, longtime KDE user, but I have fallen out of love with it, currently using Compiz as a standalone window manager, with cherry picked programs from XFCE, Gnome and KDE. Haven't booted KDE for a couple of months.

Clem and his dev team doesn't seem to give a crap about LMDE so it's best to use straight Debian.

I don't know why Debian fans would want a buggy and neglected Mint distro that just uses a debian base and then they don't care anymore.

If your tracking "debian testing" and your concerned about the look of your themes. There appears to be another upgrade today that will mess up the look of your theme for that ap.

Its the upgrade of "Eye of Gnome" (eog 2.30.2-1 to 3.0.2-2).

Another GTK 3 upgrade "sneaking in".

I just locked the old version.

The list of locked packages I have in synaptic is growing by the week.

Hey Viking!

I hear you!

The transition from GTK2 to GTK3 is a tad messy, but interesting.

When a good theme comes along that will handle it. I will unlock and upgrade.
I see the threads that cover this, but am reluctant to give up on "Orta" theme as of yet.

If you haven't checked the ".iso testing" page page lately at the Community web site, the first LMDE/LMDX "respin" builds (i386, amd64) are currently being tested so my guess is that we won't see an update pack 3 until at least the LMDE respins reach the RC stage. That being said, I've actually been wrong before. :D

In today's upgrade (Aug 6th) libavcodec52 and libavformat52 will try to remove a whole bunch of stuff (like vlc). Please don't do it!
In my system (using synaptic) they remained available for upgrade but unchecked (meaning they would no be upgraded automatically, you would have to force it), but if your upgrade method is different just beware.
If the upgrades being listed, but not upgraded, bothers you then pin those two upgrades at the present version number and they will disappear from the list of available upgrades. If, like me, it doesn't bother you, then just leave them alone and they will sort themselves out in a few days/weeks, whatever it takes.

Anyone having issues with Skype? The last few weeks I've had no video, prior to that it worked fine using this link to fix the v4l issue viewtopic.php?f=42&t=61103 . Also my incoming call sound disappeared for a week or so, but came back the other day. I did try skype without the 'export' fix, but my cam didn't work, it still works in cheese and the light turns on in the logitech cam as if it is working in skype. but there is no picture. This is not urgent to me, just thought I'd post it to see if I'm the only one... .

@viking, tks for reporting, vlc been naughty again

@gazza, i don't use skype, so we have to wait for others members feedback

@all, the mint-x update brings support for gtk3 from now on, so there's no reason to hold back those gtk3 pkgs from update anymore

Hi, I can remember reading and posting about kernel problems concerning drive handling (hard drives, optical drives, so anything handled as scsi) in kernels 2.6.39.x and maybe prior to that.
FYI, the newest kernel 3.0.1 seems to contain fixes for some of these quirks. So, as soon as the new kernel is available in the debian repos, it would perhaps be a good idea to try it, for those who experienced problems before. ;)
I just compiled a custom version to see if the problems really are fixed.
The optical drive problem with 2.6.39.x cost me a perfectly fine btrfs file system, due to a sudden kernel oops and following fs corruption, which can't yet be fixed by btrfsck. So especially for anyone using external optical drives and btrfs formatted drives, it would be pretty much adviseable to think about using the new kernel, as long as no other major problems surface.

viking, weird, weird, as you can see, i got those updates and they installed fine, with no removal;
debian-multimedia is sinced for us both, so the issue can be vlc's v., provided by the debian's main repo

so far after installing the updates today, no hitches.

tested vlc a little seems to be working 5X5

mint-x looks like it's working well, even if I had to put my sunglasses on to test it. 8)
But that's a user malfunction not a mint one.

I can verify what Viking said, this was true early this morning.

BUT,

As Zerozero verified it was soon fixed (as so often happens with Debian repos), and all updates went ok with no VLC or other removals just now. :D

Yep, it works now, but I assure you it didn't this morning. Thanks for the info.

Edit. I see Gene posted at the same time as me with the same answer so I wasn't dreaming after all. BTW Gene, does this mint-x-theme update sort out your orta theme problem?

Hey Viking!

Unfortunately NO! :(

Orta is now half "Orta" and half "Win 95".....

I changed to ATOLM theme and all is fine.

No doubt ORTA will have a fix soon.

Gene, i saw in the other thread that you have already solved your theme-quest (and good looking 8) ) but, today was mint-x theme that got gtk3 compatibility and not orta (although they are similar)

Somehow sometimes it can be crazy with testing updates. This morning at first i updated LMDE, everything was fine. Half an hour
later on my Debian Testing system the same update anounced the package libclutter 1.6.16-1 as totally buggy. It seems to be not a
big deal, both systems are working. I only ask myself, is it fun or is it torture

Are you using apt-listbugs?

I ran it for a time but I have unistalled it now, I got fed up with being told how buggy packages were when they actually were perfectly good (at least on my system). I progressively went from worrying about it, to ignoring it and finally uninstalling the program altogether.

This is not necessarily a recommendation you understand, just an observation based on my experiences.
