Slow forum at evenings.

Post by Elmacus »

Certain times especially at evening (europe time) this forum gets extreme slow.
So slow that i stop using it at these occasions.
Is it that there is more visitors or something wrong with database, or is it just me thats notices this ?

+1 I'm at G -7, and I noticed it happens at roughly evening time for Europe. I just figure people are home from work, and the demand is overwhelming.

There are just too many people online that time. It's also slow at me in the evenings (The Netherlands - is also Europe). But now at 2pm, it's fine.

It has just taken me 4 minutes to load up the forum index page! (2.10pm UK summer time). No problems with any other sites.

Darn it, it has just been down 30 minutes with:
General Error

SQL ERROR [ mysql4 ]
Too many connections [1040]
An sql error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact an administrator if this problem persists.
This can be quite a tumble for new users looking for support.

At the bottom of topics within 'Open Chat', it only shows users who are browsing the 'open chat' board. On the homepage you can see that there are more than hundred people online.

I think it's coming from that guy that was kicked off the forum for his incessant posts on the latest news about PCLinuxOS. The one that pushed the moderators over the edge was "PCLinuxOS starts with the letter P !!!"
Please add a [SOLVED] at the end of your original subject header if your question has been answered and solved.

I had no trouble getting the main page. It was the Forum I could not access.

You guys realize that
"evening (europe time)"
"evening time for Europe"
"Netherlands - is also Europe). But now at 2pm"
"(2.10pm UK summer time)"
are basically useless in this situation?

+2 to The-Wizard for UTC/Zulu time.

Let's all get together and open a terminal and run

Code: Select all

TZ=GB date \+%c
since 109.203.97.80 seems to be hosted in the UK
and report that?

I encountered some slow times as well even though it was always something bearable, I live in Italy. Never had any kind of error or problem loading pages, might just be that I've been quite lucky.

Well at almost exactly the same time - 2.30pm (sorry habitual :P ) I got exactly the same problem.
Of course it is 9.30am in eastern USA so everyone over there has just started work - reading Linux Mint forum pages!
No wonder their credit rating has been downgraded  .

Edit. It is getting worse! I just submitted a reply to a thread of mine and from the time I pressed the 'submit' button until the time the reply appeared was 15 minutes
