It's no longer just 'at evenings' either. The past couple of days I haven't been able to access anything after about 15:00 UTC. Bloody nuisance.

The current time right now @ my location is 12:11pm EST....I've been attempting to get into the community website for the last 10min....the indicator on the tab where it's trying to connect, just sits and spins counter-clockwise in a black circle on the tab....it takes approx 2-3 min to connect to forums from my area....last night, I let my laptop sit and try to connect for a whole 1/2 hour while I went out to smoke a couple of cigarettes....I came back in and it was still spinning the same way, no connection.....has anyone looked into this of late or are they taking care of it in some way...thanks in advance and have a great day....

Cheers

I must say that for me the situation is miles better today than yesterday, and with more people online than yesterday as well. Maybe they are spreading the 'pain' around the world, yesterday the UK got it, today it is the US east coast :?:

Out of interest I went to ubuntuforums.org and I got on there in a microsecond, but then again 'Shuttlecock' has a lot more money than Clem I suppose

Dude... At over 250 million USD, Shuttleworth has more money that all of us combined :( Or if not, the chap holding on to the millions in this forum should pitch in for new server

:( :( OK, OK here is my 250 million dollars - buy yourself a new server.

I was saving that for a trip into space you know.

It is going to take nearly a year to make that up on my pension

Good news viking777! A new server is not needed, just some optimizations on database and code, see Oscar799's link. So, you can still go on that trip to space

You wouldn't believe it Vincent, after I got the money back from Mint I contacted the Baikonur Cosmodrome and they told me they had already given my launch slot away to somebody else

So I have had to book a week's self catering in Yorkshire instead.

Aint life a princess :(

Sorry to go back on topic an' all but I just want to say thank you to the devs for sorting things out. I suppose we wouldn't complain if we didn't care.

Nice shed! Or pigeon loft or something :D

Re: Slow forum at evenings.(and all other times)

Postby GeneC on Sun Jan 08, 2012 11:31 am

For the last several days the forums have been very slow to load again.
This is an age old problem here in the Mint forums. It has been complained about and supposedly addressed several times. Yet the problem goes on.
As the main means of tech support for Linux Mint, I see it as a real problem.
For Instance.... Users who have been around for a while certainly would like to get on the forums to see if daily upgrades are safe or not. We have several threads covering these issues (Specifically for LMDE testing and SID,Mint 12 MGSE, Cinnamon, MATE,et).
Also new users coming to Mint have many questions. If they cant find answers to their problems by not being able to view a forum that seems a problem.

I am pretty new to Linux and this forum. But have been around a long time (I AM old.. ).
I belong (belonged) to many forums over the years, and have never seen the problems with slow forum loading that I do on this one. This is especially problematic because this forum is otherwise such a good one. I have never been on such a helpful, friendly, and well moderated forum anywhere.

Now I know that lots is happening lately with Mint 12, MGSE, Cinnamon, MATE, KDE, et, et. and that we have lots more forum members and viewers, but this remains a problem.
Is this being addressed.?

You may recall end 2011 the forum and community site were moved to separate servers, as shared by Clem on this blogpost. That really helped. Since then the forum has gained roughly 5,000 new members (around 600 each week). It will take some time to do analysis on the problem.

Be assured, we've been suffering the slowdowns today as well :( The admins and moderators are very much aware of this.
