[SOLVED] Compiz: Edge + button no longer triggers action

Postby Kvaks on Wed Aug 17, 2011 6:52 pm

Hello there! Yesterday I upgraded from LM 10 to LM 11. I've got everything working as it was before except one thing, which I use a lot: To trigger the Expo and Scale effects in Compiz, I drag the mouse cursor to an edge of the screen and right click. I especially use the Expo effect by doing this, all the time! After the distro upgrade, this no longer works, which frustrate me a lot.

Here's my setup:

This is, as far as I can tell, exactly the same setup as I used to have (which worked). I also did an advance search for RightEdge, which finds only this Expo entry, so there should be no conflicts.

Any ideas about what's going wrong here?

BTW, if I enable the "Expo edge" option below "Expo button", that trigger does work, but I don't want a purely edge trigger, I want mouse button + edge...

Edit: Solved. Downgrade Compiz to version 0.8.6. I used this guide: http://www.webupd8.org/2011/05/how-to-d ... 86-in.html

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Not sure if this is conflicting, but in the default Compiz on LM11 it is setup to maximize a window if you drag it to top edge, and to half-maximize (full height, use half the width) a window if you drag it to either right or left edge. Perhaps whatever Compiz plugin is responsible for that is conflicting.

Thanks for the suggestion! I tried disabling that (and some other modules), but it didn't help.

Could this be a bug in Compiz? Should I report it? I'm always cautious about reporting bugs, fearing that it's just a stupid user error on my side.

This is actually the single feature that made me move from KDE to Gnome. Throwing the mouse to the side of the screen and rightclicking is such a fast and easy way to switch between the virtual desktops (with a real mouse, that is. Not so much with a touchpad). No getting lost (which desktop am I on?), and no fine aiming on on a switcher applet.

You could downgrade to lower Compiz version. There are certain plugins (like the Cube), which are noted on the default Compiz version of Linux Mint 11 to not be stable (see release notes). Search the forums, a lot of people have been downgrading Compiz (sorry, don't have a link ready).
