Re: Gtk3 themes in LMDE to fix the "broken themed applicatio
I never tweaked a gtk3 theme but an easy way to try is this:
- install gcolor2 and run it.
- find out what colour is the one you want to change (like the light gray from the window's background).
- search for that colour in the files of the gtk3 theme (it can be done with 'find' or graphically with searchmonkey).
- change for the colour you want.
- install gcolor2 and run it.

Hey secipolla
Thanks for that.
I looked at it and:
This is a GTK3 theme.
What to heck. I'll download and give it a try..
Will post, if it works.
Thanks for that.
I looked at it and:
That means to me that its GTK2 only?Gcolor2 is a simple GTK2 color selector to provide a quick and easy
way to find colors for whatever task is at hand.
Colors can be saved and deleted as well.

Re: Gtk3 themes in LMDE to fix the "broken themed applicatio
It's a simple colour selector so you can see the number of the selected colour.
BTW, it comes with a low resolution icon. Get the one attached and replace /usr/share/pixmaps/gcolor2/icon.png so you have a better looking menu entry.

Re: Gtk3 themes in LMDE to fix the "broken themed applicatio
OK!
I see now what your talking about.
I installed Gcolor 2 and I see how it works.
I identified the colors I want to change.
I assume I have to manually go into the ATOLM theme .css file and edit the old color numbers to the new.
I am a bit of a Linux newbie, so this is a bit advanced for me, and something that I would no doubt screw up.
I did find an alternative.
I was playing with some old themes that i had installed, and found one that works most excellently with both the GTK2 and GTK3 aps I have now.
I could have sworn this was a LIGHT theme.
But is dark with green accents and looks and works great.
Its "Minty-Freshness"
Someone please tell me that I am not so old that I am getting senile, and this was always a dark theme...

Re: Gtk3 themes in LMDE to fix the "broken themed applicatio
It looks like the theme is using the colors from whatever theme you had enabled previous to enabling Minty Freshness. Try clicking the "Reset to Defaults" button on the colors pane and see if it changes back to lighter colors. (Of course, if you prefer to keep it dark, then don't...)
Re: Gtk3 themes in LMDE to fix the "broken themed applicatio
Yes, that must be it.
I am leaving as is, I like this combo.

Re: Gtk3 themes in LMDE to fix the "broken themed applicatio
It may be defaulting the gtk3 to whatever theme you had set last.
Not sure but I think that is how it works.

Hey, I try to "mintify" the Atolm theme.
Here is my result for now :
What do you think about this ?
Note : In the screenshot, you can see gnome-terminal, gdebi and gnome-calc (GTK3), Nautilus and gedit (GTK2) and VLC (Qt).

Re: Gtk3 themes in LMDE to fix the "broken themed applicatio
Hey MeV
Thanks for that.
I am using it, but I changed the window borders to straight ATOLM, and the icons to Faenza (just my particular taste).
Nice job on changing the blue to green.
Très agréable!

This theme does not work well in Debian.

The Drakfire theme theme uses the Unico engine for gtk3, it is only in Ubuntu not Debian.
Unless someone packages it for Debian, the current Unico deb is not installable in Debian, unmet dependencies.

Re: Gtk3 themes in LMDE to fix the "broken themed applicatio
I just downloaded and tried out the theme, and I can't say I was overly impressed by it. I'm not entirely sure why, but some elements of the GTK 3 theme didn't seem to be properly applied, appearing instead to carry over from my previously applied theme (the GTK 2 theme, however, seemed fine), so I think I'll stick with my current theme and give this one a pass.

I posted the link, before I tried it.
I am sticking to Atolm until more comes "down the pike"

Re: Gtk3 themes in LMDE to fix the "broken themed applicatio
That could explain it. While I do have a version of the Unico engine installed, it is an out-dated one (0.1.0 r69) that has its dependencies met by Debian with GNOME 3. It's likely that this theme requires a newer version.

An update to share 2 more gtk2/gtk3 compatible themes:
1- Sonar by half-left (another great theme - his first gtk3 theme - and a minty look&feel on it)
http://my.deviantart.com/messages/#/d47pa7x
2- Old Steampunk by our dear friend samriggs (well done sam )
http://my.deviantart.com/messages/#/d45x2o9
as you can see both work pretty well on LMDE

Can't give you any confirmation either way about the possible senility issues ( ) but I just had to give thumbs up to this theme.GeneC wrote: I was playing with some old themes that i had installed, and found one that works most excellently with both the GTK2 and GTK3 aps I have now.

I'm not generally the greatest fan of green (the colour that is; I'm more or less of veg tree-hugging Harley type!) but the lighter highlights in active windows, the legible and not disturbingly dark main background colour and the tastefully subdued greens here are simply... classy. The borders are a little on the wastefully thick side but hey..
Maybe it's because certain megalomaniac Steve (J.) has been in the news recently, but this reminds me remotely of certain NeXT boxen of old.
I wonder how well this goes with Xfce...
Re: Gtk3 themes in LMDE to fix the "broken themed applicatio
I'm making a new one called heavy metal, hopefully I'll have it done soon (well at least the shell) I want to try some new things on this one, make a cleaner gtk then the last one also, (it got a bit messed up with all the browns, which I have to go over again).
Half-left came out with an extremely nice one also.
You might want to check it out.
