Region free DVD HW?

Post by MartinRF »

I have just learned that DVD r/w-units can have region specific firmware:
http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/rpc1.htm

Does anyone out there know how one figures this out from Linux?
The tool mentioned in that article is a Windows app.

Hi

"view and modify the region code of DVD drives
Regionset is a small utility which displays and sets
the region/zone setting of a DVD drive, allowing it to decrypt
the DVD's sold in this geographical zone. Hardware vendors
often limit the number of such modifications, but it is
necessary to set it at least once with a brand new drive"

Its in Synaptic

Thanks.

I hope this means I am OK.
