I've completed the update to Update Pack 3 on the LMDE 201108 RC that had been previously updated to Pack 2 after install. So far the system is running find, no major glitches. In fact, there's only one glitch and that is seen during boot up after the update but it doesn't seem to affect anything. This is what I see while watching the boot up text (taken from "syslog" file from my last boot up, error shown in red)

Like I said, the system does not seem to be affected at all because of this. I seem to recall I saw the same type of boot up error when I installed the latest Linux Kernel 3.0 RC to LM 11. The error isn't seen with the previous 2.6.29 kernel series.

And just for information sake, I saw 6 "errors/warnings" during the update process for Update Pack 3:

Once again, the system appears to be running fine once I'm logged into the desktop. The 3.0 kernel is installed, the 280 Nvida driver is installed, Compiz is working fine as well as VLC (both player and browser plugins in Firefox and Chrome) and LibreOffice and printing. Knowing how updating LMDE (or any other version of GNU/Linux) is not exactly what you might call, "perfectly sequential", I'm not too concerned about the above update "error" call outs. Doesn't hurt to post them though.

Not too sure about the boot up error I listed at the beginning of the post though. Anyone else seeing anything like that during boot up?

I changed my sources.list to reflect the new repo layout like this:

My update manager got updated to 1.3 .

Turris, you have changed your sources.list to latest testing/security/multimedia. Until now i havn't seen green light for
doing it. Only the incoming latest/security/multimedia sources should be active now.

Now what i really wanted to this morning, it's the deb-src thing.

only one support question in another forum where the solution was to add deb-src's to the sources.list.

In a fresh installed LMDE with the 201009/201101 ISO the deb-src's are enabled and with the 201108 ISO you say they are disabled.
Do i think right, that it can't be bad to have them enabled? And i can leave it like it is here

deb-src are really only needed if you are going to compile your own pkgs (what i believe most of the users won't), anyway it doesn't hurt have them there, they don't interfere, and one day you might feel the will to start compiling

have changed to mint repos a couple a weeks ago or so, nearly no updates, so I were thinking of changing back to testing, but today, hooray!!!!!!!!, am doing a 421 update happening atm, + a reboot and then we will see what happens

According to Clem's post there is no "latest" when it comes to 'security' and 'multimedia' coming under Mint's LMDE umbrella, only "incoming" for the moment which would make sense as he probably wants to test the "vetting" process for these updates as well. I expect that once he's satisfied the LMDE respin final will include the 'security' and 'multimedia' repos under "latest" as well.

It's all due to wishful thinking I'm sure. Wishing that the final release and all that it entails is a rousing success and all that. Well...at least that sounds good anyway.

I absolutely agree. Even more than that, I think it would be wise to keep security updates outside of the Update Packs altogether. Keep them under LMDE's roof so to speak but make sure the security updates that come from "security.debian.org/ testing" are quickly tested for possible breakage and released as updates external to the monthly Update Packs. I'm thinking this could be put into place once the final is released with the 'latest' repos set as default.
