Update Manager closes... (SOLVED)

Post by tenfoot »

LMDE with updates to 2011-08-31 08:00:41 mintupdate-debian

Went to update this evening (11 updates, including gcompris and totem) Clicked on Install Updates and dialogue box appeared

Code: Select all

This update will trigger additional changes.
libdata-optlist-perl
libdata11
libparams-util-perl
libsub-nstall-perl
Clicked on O.K. and Mint Update Manager closed.

Checked Update Pack Info
Current update pack avaialble N/A
Latest update pack used by this system N/A

This is the first time I can remember updates not completing. Is there something I am missing in this, please?

if i understand clearly, the last update you had was mu-debian ( a normal update we all had from 1.0.2 to 1.0.3)
Q: did you reboot after that update, and before these errors? i've seen 1 or 2 reports when MU acts a bit strange after self-updating and without a reboot

Q: in your previous post the output of inxi -r is empty

The output is light grey and the background is white. That's why you only see the above output, but there is more.
Open Terminal and run the command again, then copy everything between the two $ signs. Post the output.

Yes, that is correct.

No. I hadn't. However, I have now done so now and the update completed successfully, other than that I received the following error message at the beginning

Code: Select all

W: A error occurred during the signature verification. The repository is not updated and the previous index files will be used. GPG error: http://security.debian.org testing/updates InRelease: File /var/lib/apt/lists/partial/security.debian.org_dists_testing_updates_InRelease doesn't start with a clearsigned message

W: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.]
Q: in your previous post the output of inxi -r is empty
:  indeed! 'Twas the fact that the text was disappearing into the background colour. Changing my preferences all was revealed, as follows

Code: Select all

zed@systemproductname-desktop ~ $ inxi -r
Repos: Active apt sources in file: /etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian main upstream import
deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian testing main contrib non-free
           deb http://security.debian.org/ testing/updates main contrib non-free
           deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org testing main non-free
zed@systemproductname-desktop ~ $
Once again, zerozero, thank you for your patience and assistance.

See my reply to zerozero. Indeed it was the background terminal colour which was the problem. Changing that led to me being able to see the text.

Thanks for your interest.

glad i could be of some help :)
as for that error you saw above, i wouldn't worry to much now, can be the mirror that was down or unreachable.
if it doesn't clear in the next days or so, then we should look at it closer
