I have this issue within the Nvidia server settings when trying to save to X configuration file:
"You do not have adequate permission to open the existing X configuration file '/etc/X11/xorg.conf' for writing. You must be 'root' to modify the file."

Re: X Config problem
Run the Nvidia server settings as root. You can look in Control Center -> Main Menu what the actual name of the command is that is started when you run Nvidia server settings from the menu. Then press Alt+F2 and type:
Where you replace <command> (including the angle brackets) with the command for Nvidia server settings as taken from the menu.
Not sure why this is happening, Nvidia server settings should ask you to become root by default I think... But try the workaround.
Code: Select all
gksudo <command>

Re: X Config problem
Sorry for the thick question but how do I run Nvidia X Server Settings as root?

Re: X Config problem
Type the code sample given under the run command in your menu system.., that is
--assumes you already have nvidia-settings utility installed, may install when nvidia binary driver does..

an example of install..
Code: Select all
gksudo nvidia-settings
