Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Please run this command:
Code: Select all
gksu gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

It opens a text editor. Please remove all old cruft (if necessary) and put this into the file:
Code: Select all
Section "Screen"
    Driver "sis"
EndSection

Note that SiS graphics support on Linux is bad. SiS themselves never made a proper driver. Don't expect 3D games to run properly on this laptop with Linux.

i succeded to make settings for 1200x800 resolution, but the suport for multimedia it's almost 0.
i mean,i can't watch movies in full screen, beacuse when i put full screen it's log out by itself. If i move video decoder to XV,i can watch full screen only with smplayer and totem.I'd like to watch them with vlc. But,it's pretty impossible. If i resize the window, the vlc image turns black until i resize it back.(i like vlc beacuse i can set up volume higher than normal)with, smplayer and totem,it's seems normal.I'll google more..if you know anything lemme know.(btw,if i edit xorg.conf with that ,after restart,i can't see anyting on the display, and i must delete with a live cd ... sudo nautilus give me the acces to the xorg.conf)
anyway thank you a lot for trying.
PS.i don't play games.I need suport only for multimedia(normal movies not HD),but if i dont't have that...:( :( :(
So again,if you hear something post it here.

You can't replace a SiS graphics card in a laptop with something else - I recommend to get another laptop (perhaps second-hand) to run Linux. Eventually, you can install Windows XP on the SiS laptop and sell it on some website with second-hand stuff.

You won't get better performance from the SiS M672 graphics on Linux. It's up to you what you're going to do with the laptop.
