Must Simply Mepis be uninstalled first

Post by jadaro »

Must I uninstall Simply Mepis before installing Mint.
Does Mint wipe out all of Mepis files. I have none to keep.
My laptop has 10 gig hd and 198 ram
I tried to install Mint on top of Mepis and received the following message " failed to partition-selected disk or free space too small for auto partition. I do not know how to manual partition . I have never used Linux and am looking for a Windows alternative. I need suggestions.

Welcome to Mint jadaro
So you installed Mepis and want to install Mint and you don't want anything else (Mepis, Windows) on that disk?
If so, but only if so, use the option to use the entire disk when you're asked about partitioning

That does not work.
Will Mint install on a 10gig hard drive with only 190 ram?

I think the 10gig hard drive is ok, may be right on the edge. But you should have a min of 256MB of RAM. I have seen some real low numbers that users have installed Mint on, but that usually takes a lot of tweaking and uninstalling software.

Unless you want to upgrade, you may be better doing a google search for Puppy Linux, TinyMe, TinyFlux, DSL, dyne:bolic, and Vector that all run better on specs such as yours.

I agree with BakUp
I missed the RAM amount before
