Trying to install k9copy

Post by vinoman »

I tried to install k9copy and I get this error:

davepch davek # apt-get install k9copy
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
k9copy : Depends: mencoder but it is not going to be installed
E: Broken packages
davepch davek #

Is there a way to install k9copy?

running version 201109, Xfce 64bit

Fix the broken packages issue. Start Package Manager (Synaptic), select "Broken" on the left hand list in the window and resolve the issues. You may also try from the terminal: sudo apt-get install -f

thanks, but I don't have Broken listed in left hand list in synaptic. I ran the -f command and I get this:

davepch davek # apt-get install -f
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 5 not upgraded.

I tried to install mencoder and I get this:

davepch davek # apt-get install mencoder
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done

You'll have to wait. In Debian based Distros testing or unstable, it is common missing or not met packages dependencies (possible broken status).
Packages are constantly testing period and is common to disappear for a while, return to a previous version, but eventually become stable.

I hope this isn't considered hijacking, but I updated my LMDE with the Debian repositories before I read that I should wait until upgrade pack 3 comes out. This made it difficult to install k9copy when I pointed my repositories to LMDE. I solved this by temporarily pointing my security and multimedia repositories to Debian testing and then installing k9copy and its multimedia dependencies, then changing the repositories back to LMDE. So far I have no problems with my system but YMMV.
