I decided to try the PCLinuxOS 64 bit test 3 iso today because the feedback on it has been so good. Everything went just as smooth as it did with the 32 bit version and the memory use is extremely good for a 64 bit system. Most everything I use is in the repos with the exception of a couple of codecs but Texstar is still building packages and this is not a final release yet. All my hardware worked perfectly out of the box and flash playback works nice too. I have not found any problems at all with the test 3 iso and I think that people that have been waiting for the 64 bit release are going to be pleasantly surprised!
Do you think I can safely "upgrade" from my 32 bits installation, that is, format the / partition and keep the /home ?
It is not ready for daily use just yet, there are still more packages to come and a couple of things that nee some work. For a test iso the 64 bit version is looking very good though!
So far the 64 bit release just keeps getting better and better! I have been running the 64 bit test release for over a week and it is running very well. All multimedia is working except for apple trailers but that is very minor. The test release is running very quick and it has been just fine for my day to day use. I was never really sold on running a 64 bit OS until trying the test release but this is nice and fast and the resource use is very good for 64 bit running KDE.
