Boot stops at flashing cursor... (SOLVED)

Postby tenfoot on Mon Sep 19, 2011 6:06 pm

Downloaded both the x32 (for my T60 laptop) and x64 versions (for my Desktop) of LMDE 201209 yesterday and burnt them to DVDs. However, when running as Live DVDs they do not boot beyond a black screen with flashing cursor at the bottom.

Before I burn them again and/or download them again, is someone able to tell me whether it is a bad download and/or burn which leads to the black cursor, please?

Well, there may be other things that will produce that 'symptom', but when I have seen that it usually means I'm asking the computer to do more than it was designed for: short on memory, or to new a kernel perhaps? But that doesn't sound likely for your desktop if it is capable of 64bit. You might also check the md5sum of your iso files to be sure you got a good download.

The problem turned out to be a bad iso burn on both the x32 and x64 iso - even though I burnt them at 4.0x. Burning them again has solved the problem
