Installation of Wine/ PlayOnLinux [SOLVED]

Post by kbkb »

Hi,

I'm no longer able to install Wine or PlayOnLinux on my LMDE 64Bit OS and would like to have both installed.

I followed a suggestion to install PlayOnLinux. So I followed the instructions on: http://www.playonlinux.com/en/download.html but after having entered the commands in terminal I got:

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
playonlinux : Depends: wine but it is not installable or
wine-stable but it is not installable or
wine-unstable but it is not installable

It seems that Wine must be pre-installed. Does anyone have instructions in laymans terms on how to get Wine and PlayOnLInux installed on my pc?

Had the same "problem" did a search for wine and came up with this thread:
http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=190&t=76928

The best solution so far seem to be the post by lmdeman (think it might be post 11 or 12 - look for his nick)
It involves editing your sources.list and pulling in another repository which might ot be optimal depending on how you see things, but after some consideration I gave it a go and it was very easy (I'm kind of a layman too) to set up. I made the suggested changes, downloaded wine and Playonlinx and that was it.

I'm now running Office 2007 (Powerpoint, Word & Excel) in my computer with a bit of help from Playonlinux. Next stop is to get a version of Photoshop later than CS2 to work (preferrably CS4 or CS5) but I'm not quite there yet...

I followed the instructions.
I installed Wine then PlayOnLInux from Software Resources within LMDE

Thanks! Wine is now installed.

I am now following the instructions on: http://www.dedoimedo.com/games/wine-directx.html
and installing direct x and other enhancements.
