Update Pack 3 not showing up in Update manager

Post by belred »

My update manager is showing that the lastest version available is 2 and that I'm currently using 2.

I changed my sources.list to:

deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian main upstream import
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest testing main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/security testing/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/multimedia testing main non-free

I then refreshed the update manager and installed what it told me. Update manager is currently at 1.0.4.

uname -a is: Linux mint 3.0.0-1-amd64 #1 SMP Sat Aug 27 16:21:11 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I also tried apt-get update, upgrade and dist-upgrade, but the update manager can't see update pack 3. What should I do next?

Will I need to reinstall Mint LMDE to fix this?

I'm running an earlier version of LMDE 64. I edited my sources.list as suggested in the Update Pack 3 instructions and Update from update-manager results in an error as follows:

"Release file for http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/dist ... /InRelease is expired. Updates for this repository will not be applied".

Update from terminal gives the same error. Update pack 3 never shows up in the list of available updates. One other observation is that the update-manager looks different from the one shown on the blog. Instead of update-manager-debian v1.0.4 it looks like the standard LM update manager v4.3.3. Current kernel is 2.6.32-5-AMD64 and window manager is Gnome 3.0.2. What am I dealing with here?

Output from "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" is as follows:

Ign http://packages.linuxmint.com debian InRelease
Hit http://debian.linuxmint.com testing InRelease
Hit http://debian.linuxmint.com testing/updates InRelease
E: Release file for http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/dist ... /InRelease is expired (invalid since 27d 1h 31min 27s). Updates for this repository will not be applied.

You need the new mintupdate-debian
Read zerozero's thread, first page on how to install
http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=187&t=76556

Code: Select all

now grab the new mintupdate-debian (it will ask to remove the old mintupdate, mint-meta-common and mint-meta-debian)

Code: Select all
    sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install mintupdate-debian

and we are ready; now we can start to use MU (i never though i would say this :lol: )
(tks wayne for pointing this out 8) )

I've run sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade and apt-get dist-upgrade.

The Update Pack Info dialog in the Update Manager still says:

Your system is pointing to the "Linux Mint Debian Latest" repository.
Current Update Pack available: 2
Latest Update Pack used by this system: 2

Why is it saying this when update pack 3 has been released?

beired,
are you sure those were always your sources.list?
have you by any change before had the repos pointing to testing directly?
can't make other sense out of this

Re: Update Pack 3 not showing up in Update manager

Yes, I used testing for a long time before there was such a thing as a "latest" repository. I like the concept of latest, so I then I followed the instructions on the site to change over to latest manually. My sources.list should be exactly the same as everyone elses. I use dropbox and googletalk plugin so I have two extra repo lines for those files which are in separate files in sources.list.d.

Re: Update Pack 3 not showing up in Update manager

so i think we found the "problem":
- you were in testing and updating regularly;
- UP3 was frozen around aug/30;
- you were still in testing by then and updating;
- only after (how after?) you changed to latest, basically to a pack older than most of your pkgs;
- i think this "confused" MU;
- if you check in synaptic you will, most probably, see a lot of local and/or obsolete pkgs (are those newer than the present repos you have)

now, this is not a problem, if your system is working properly, there's no issues, no worries, when UP4 comes all this will be corrected (or so i believe)

zerozero,

Thanks, I think your explanation is spot on. Time-wise, I switched to lastest between UP2 and UP3. So, I just assumed UP3 would work. My system is working perfectly, and Update Manager still updates packages regularly. I'll patiently wait until UP4 and see if it works. I do think that it shouldn't matter when a switch to UP3 was made. As long as you meet the minimum requirements, It should report you are UP3 compatible.

Thanks for helping me diagnose this.
